In the UK today, commercial institutions would struggle were it not for support workers fixing both computers and networks, while making recommendations to users each and every day. Industry's need for larger numbers of commercially qualified individuals multiplies, as society becomes consistently more dependent upon computers in the twenty first century.

If your advisor doesn't question you thoroughly - the likelihood is they're actually nothing more than a salesman. If someone pushes specific products before getting to know your background and whether you have any commercial experience, then you know it's true. With a strong background, or even a touch of real-world experience (maybe some existing accreditation?) then it's likely the point from which you begin your studies will be different from someone with no background whatsoever. Commencing with a user skills program first is often the best way to get into your IT programme, depending on your current skill level.

It's essential to have the current Microsoft (or Cisco, CompTIA etc.) accredited exam simulation and preparation packages. Make sure that the simulated exams are not only asking questions on the right subjects, but are also posing them in the same way that the proper exam will pose them. This can really throw some trainees if the phraseology and format is completely different. Ensure that you test how much you know by doing quizzes and practice exams prior to taking the actual exam.
