If we didn't have a constant influx of knowledgeable computer and network support staff, industry throughout the country (as elsewhere) would surely run into problems. Whilst our society becomes massively more dependent on our PC's, we also find ourselves more reliant on the well trained IT professionals, who keep the systems going.

One fatal mistake that potential students often succumb to is to focus entirely on getting a qualification, instead of focusing on the end result they want to achieve. Universities have thousands of direction-less students who took a course because it seemed fun - rather than what would get them their end-goal of a job they enjoyed. It's an awful thing, but a great many students start out on programs that sound great in the sales literature, but which provides the end-result of a job that is of no interest at all. Try talking to typical college students and you'll see where we're coming from.

Get to grips with what you want to earn and whether you're an ambitious person or not. Usually, this will point the way to what precise accreditations you will need and what'll be expected of you in your new role. Long before starting a training programme, it makes sense to talk through individual career needs with an experienced professional, so as to be sure the study course covers all that is required.

Have a conversation with any professional consultant and they'll entertain you with many terrible tales of students who've been conned by dodgy salespeople. Only deal with an experienced industry professional that asks some in-depth questions to discover the most appropriate thing for you - not for their paycheque! It's very important to locate the right starting point of study for you. With a little live experience or some accreditation, you may find that your starting point is now at a different level to a new student. For those students starting IT studies and exams from scratch, you might like to break yourself in gently, kicking off with user-skills and software training first. This can be built into most types of training.
